Donn Yeager
Therapist
LASAC
Donn is a Licensed Associate Substance Abuse Counselor specializing in drug addiction, alcohol addiction, and gambling. He sees individuals struggling with addiction, and family members of individuals struggling with addiction. Donn’s therapy begins from the premise that addiction is a coping skill, and his focus is to identify underlying trauma, help change belief systems, and work to adapt more positive coping skills through cognitive behavioral or talk therapy. Donn is culturally diverse and works at St. Luke’s Behavioral Health hospital with inpatient and outpatient clients.
Donn believes that everyone has the potential to change, that behaviors are taught, and that everyone has the capacity to be more proactive and less reactive. He understands the trials of addiction and how it affects families, and had a son die from an overdose on methamphetamines in 2019. When he began doing therapy, he was told that “every good therapist has a therapist,” and he is no exception to that rule. Through his own therapy, he learned to acquire more patience and to better understand of his own limitations.
Donn is a retired U.S. Navy Veteran who was a Hospital Corpsman for 20 years, serving onboard the USS Blandy, USS Guam and the USS Eisenhower. During his tenure, he served in operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm where he witnessed combat and had the responsibility to tend to individuals injured in combat. The second half of Petty Officer Yeager’s career in the military was spent with the Marine Corps where he served at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Camp Pendleton, California and Kaneohe Bay Hawaii where he provided training and health care to his fellow Marines. Toward the end of Petty Officer Yeager’s career in the military, he learned how to fly and earned his Commercial Pilot’s License, earned his certified flight instruction certification, and provided flight instruction, after which he flew as a Commercial Pilot.
Donn earned his Bachelor’s degree from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Professional Aeronautics and his Master’s in Science in Mental Health Counseling. He is the father of 4 adult children, who he raised as a single father while active duty, and has been married for 19 years.
