Psychiatric Care

Welcome to Ahwatukee Behavioral Health & Wellness

At ABHW, our psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners create a compassionate, empathetic atmosphere where patients can receive psychiatric care that is tailored to their unique needs. Our psychiatric professionals all share a common understanding that no two patients are alike, and proper medication prescription and medication management depends on getting to know each patient as an individual. ABHW provides a safe, nonjudgmental environment where individuals can connect with their psychiatric professional and integrate psychiatric and medication treatment with other forms of therapy and services that are tailored to treat them holistically.

Our Approach

At ABHW, we understand that every patient we see has their own life, their own history, and their own story that informs both their challenges and their strengths. Although our psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners come from diverse backgrounds, they all harbor a shared commitment to using evidence-based techniques and approaches, and spending enough individualized time with each to be able to develop a personalized and tailored treatment plan that helps them navigate challenges and achieve their desired goals.

Mental Checklist

Psychiatric Evaluations and Consultations

Initial sessions with ABHW’s psychiatric providers last approximately one hour.  During these appointments, ABHW’s psychiatric providers meet with patients, learn about their background and history, assess mental health and other factors, and make initial treatment recommendations.

Obsession

Psychotherapy

ABHW’s psychiatric team prides itself on getting to know their patients and ensuring that they are receiving the treatment that best suits their lives and circumstance.  Therefore, psychotherapy is often combined with psychiatric medication management.  Additionally, ABHW’s psychiatric professionals may also discuss with patients the benefit of receiving counseling with a therapist in addition to any psychiatric/medication appointments that they attend.

Medication Management

Medication can be an important part of a patient’s mental and behavioral health care treatment.  At ABHW, our psychiatric professionals engage with patients about what medications, if any, may aid in their treatment, along with the advantages, disadvantages, and risks of any such medications.  Ultimately, ABHW’s psychiatric professionals endeavor to make recommendations that improve the quality of life and daily functioning of their patients.  ABHW’s psychiatric professionals will prescribe medications where clinically appropriate, and create a follow-up plan to manage those medications, with an emphasis on monitoring patients’ progress and safety.

Biological

Pharmacogenetic Testing

ABHW’s psychiatric team employs pharmacogenetic testing to help identify the medications that will work best for each individual patient, based on their unique genetic makeup.  ABHW’s team uses the latest scientific research and technology to ensure that they are obtaining the best possible outcomes for their patients.
