Sarah Bortz

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

DNP, PMHNP-BC

Sarah is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) who has treated individuals with mental health concerns for most of her career. Sarah began her professional journey as a mental health nurse in a state psychiatric hospital for children, working with many teenage girls with a history of trauma and abuse. Sarah offered dedicated, compassionate care to these patients, and felt passionate about being part of their recovery journeys.

After moving to Arizona, Sarah primarily focused on working with veterans. She spent a decade at the Phoenix VA Medical Center in inpatient and outpatient settings. Sarah has worked with individuals with serious mental illness, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, schizophrenia / schizoaffective disorder, eating disorders, and substance use disorder. Her passion for aiding in these patients’ recoveries inspired her to return to school and obtain her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree in Psychiatric Mental Health.

Sarah’s care philosophy centers upon the belief that people need to be, and feel, seen and heard. The journey towards well-being cannot happen without open and honest communication between patient and provider, leading to patient buy-in and investment in their own recoveries. Sarah understands people’s inherent resilience and strength, but also recognizes that life’s obstacles can feel daunting and that vulnerability is a part of healing, too. Sarah wants her patients to feel empowered to be active participants in their own recovery, while also feeling safe and secure in the notion that it is ok not to be ok, as long as you keep moving forward.
